Established in 1970 as a home for workers in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Prypiat, Ukraine reached a population of more than 50,000 before it was deserted immediately after the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. The city remains a ghost town.
Prypiat, Ukraine: Tourist Destination?
Despite its home in the creepy-sounding “Zone of Alienation”, radiation levels have dropped considerably and the city of Prypiat is now safe to visit. Tours of Prypiat and Chernobyl are available for less than $200. Our friends in Europe can book a package that includes flights and two nights in a hotel for around 400 Euros.
